Aquamarine's Wave Power Device Wins the 'Innovator of the Year 2009' Award

Aquamarine's Oyster wave power device has won the Innovator of the Year 2009 award at the British Renewable Energy Awards.

The Oyster beat out seven other nominees.  The award takes into consideration outstanding excellence in innovative concept and design, achievement in meeting original objectives; and continued success of the device.  The Renewable Energy Association represents the U.K. renewable energy industries and aims to secure legislation for renewable energy production in Britain.

The Oyster is designed to harness near water wavepower.  The device collects energy when waves activate an oscillator which sends high-pressure water through a sub-sea pipeline to the shore.  Once onshore, conventional hydro-electric generators convert the water into electrical power.  Currently, Oyster is in the first stages of being deployed off Britain's coast.
