Greenleaf Biofuels Forms New Partnership With Tenaska Biofuels

Greenleaf Biofuels announced that it has signed an agreement with biofuel marketer Tenaska Biofuels to supply Greenleaf with feedstock for its production plant in New Haven, Connecticut.

In addition to covering the facility's initial 10 million-gallon-per-year-capacity as part of the exclusive multi-year agreement Tenaska Biofuels will sell the biodiesel produced at the plant. Tenaska Biofuels, a wholly-owned subsidary of indepent power producer Tenaska, specializes in transportation, procurement and financial services to biodiesel and ethanol companies.

Founded in 2004, Greenleaf Biofuels has been primarily a distributed of biodiesel. However, its mission is to be the largest producer of biodiesel in the Northeast.

Moving towards that target the company has picked up momentum over the past couple of months. In October 2011, Sovereign Bank signed on as the lead financier marking the close of financing on the biodiesel plant in Connecticut. Earlier this month Greeleaf held a formal groundbreaking construction cermony at the facility's site in New Haven Harbor.

When construction is complete in mid-2012 the facility will be the largest of its kind in New England. Initially the plant will convert reclaimed and waste vegetable oil from restaurants and food manufacturers into biodiesel which can be used in both heating and transportation applications.

For Greenleaf CEO and founder, Gus Kellogg the agreement with Tenaska is a siginicant step toward achieving the company's vision to be the leading provider of biodiesel in the Northeast.

"Between its significant experience in the biofuels industry, vegetable oils and waste feedstock procurement, and trading operations, we feel extremely fortunate to have Tenaska as our commodity manager. We look forward to many years of collaboration with this pre-eminent energy company,” said Kellogg.
