During the 2008 election, when gasoline prices were hitting record highs, Republican pundits made fun of then candidate Barack Obama for suggesting that Americans could reduce their gas costs by keeping their tires properly inflated. In fact, when tires are not properly inflated, fuel efficiency is reduced by as much as .4% for every pound per square inch your tires are underinflated.
