energy grid

Six years ago, in an effort to encourage development of its massive wind power potential, Texas state lawmakers passed Senate Bill 20 and with it created Competitive Renewable Energy Zones (CREZ).

One the persistent arguments levied against wind power, and renewable power in general, is the inability to store the energy that is generated.  This problem has several effects, including hurting profits.

After an aggressive campaign of fitting roughly 85% of Italy's homes with innovative smart meters, the country's main utility, Enel (BIT:ENEL), is saving up to $750 million per year and cutting consumer costs dramatically.

Panelists at an Urban Land Institute meeting yesterday in San Diego, Calif. floated the idea of a bi-national grid between the U.S and Mexico that would allow both nations to collaboratively manage their energy needs and guarantee increased use of renewable energy sources.

In the United Kingdom a new report has inspired several organizations to urge the government to make a paradigm shift in its energy policy.

Ireland has set out on a quest to generate 40% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2020.  Finding the technology to create the energy has not been problem, finding a way to transmit that energy to Irish communities has.
