Detroit took a serious hit when the auto industry went belly-up earlier this year, but Michigan’s economy has discovered a surprising pick-me-up in the form of General Electric's decision on Friday to invest $100 million in a renewable energy research and production facility in Van Buren Township in western Wayne County.

The U.S. Department of Energy has announced it will provide the state of Michigan with more than $32 million dollars in Recovery Act funding to support and develop energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.
