VantagePoint Venture Partners Establishes $100 Million Cleantech Fund in China

VantagePoint Venture Partners has announced the launch of a US$100 million cleantech fund aimed at developing projects in China's Bohai Rim region.

With its value of $100 million, this fund will be one of the largest in of its kind in China.  Since a significant portion of the capital is already committed, VantagePoint intends to deploy the fund immediately.

Alan Salzman, CEO and Manging Partner of VantagePoint said this about the new venture:  "China is one of the key places where the global cleantech future is being defined.  The country is a world leader in terms of investment in clean energy, and the Ianjin-Bohai Rim region is as the heart of this cleantech revolution."

VantagePoint is one of the world's foremost venture capital investors in clean technologies.  To date, the company has invested more than US$1 billion in the sector.  The firm's investments have spanned the entire industry, touching emerging technologies such as the smart grid technology, waste-to-energy, and electric vehicle development.
