PSEG Solar Source Acquires Arizona Solar Project

Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG) through its wholly owned subsidiary, PSEG Solar Source, has finalized the purchase of an Arizona solar farm from juwi solar, Inc.

PSEG Solar Source paid $75 million for the Queen Creek Solar Farm which is expected to enter its construction phase later this month.

Located just outside of the city of Phoenix, the new solar facility will employ photovoltaic (PV) solar modules and a single axis tracking system to generate up to 25.2 MW of renewable energy.

In early fall of 2011, juwi secured a power purchase agreement with the Salt River Project Agricultural Improvement and Power District which is one of the largest utilities in Arizona, serving nearly one million customers.

The Queen Creek facility is both the fourth solar project PSEG Solar Source has purchased from juwi and the fourth utility-scale solar installation the company owns.

Queen Creek's generation capacity is nearly equal to the other three solar farms combined capacity. That being said, according to juwi, two of those solar farms, the 15 MW PSEG Jacksonville Solar Farm in Florida and the 12 PSEG Wyandot Solar farm, are the largest of their kind in their respective states.

With the exception of the Blue Wind Solar farm in San Antonio, Texas, which was sold to Duke Energy Corp. in January 2010, all of juwl's utility-scale projects have been sold to PSEG.

juwl will engineer, procure and construct the project, and in the 3rd quarter when Queen Creek is expected to be brought online, the company will operate and maintain the project.
