Reports are starting to come out that oil from the Gulf of Mexico BP spill disaster will soon reach the pristine beaches of the Florida Panhandle.
Some reports say the oil will hit as soon as Wednesday of this week, while others are reporting it will take to the weekend.
Local officials are telling Associated Press that a sheen of oil is currently sitting about 9.5 miles off Pensacola beach.
According to the latest update on the Pensacola Beach visitors information site, as of earlier today the beach remains open. In a sign of things to come, health officials have issued a notice in Pensacola telling residents what to do if they come across tar balls on Florida beaches.
A 'beach cam' set up by a local Pensacola resort shows hundreds of people enjoying a beautiful day at the beach as of late this afternoon. A spill touching down in this region will surely be devastating to the local economy.
