Sydney Theater Company Installs Largest Rooftop Solar Array in Sydney

In a "switch on" event the Sydney Theater Company (STC) Artistic Directors Cate Blanchett and Andrew Upton officially turned on Sydney's largest rooftop solar array at its theater, The Wharf.

Supplied by the world's largest solar power panel producer, Suntech Power Holdings Co. (NYSE: STP) the 1,906 solar panels will supply 384kW of power to the theater. In addition to the solar panels the theater has been fitted with a waste recycling system and a rainwater harvesting system as part of STC's Greening The Wharf initiative.  The solar power will supply 70% of the theater's electricity.

The project was funded in large part by a A$2 million dollar donation from Suntech's Founder, Chairman and CEO Dr. Zhengrong Shi

"Theatre has always been a place to stimulate visionary conversations and practical action. Now that this immense solar array is operating here at Sydney Theatre Company, we hope it will inspire others, including the hundreds of thousands of people who pass through the Company each year, to take their own steps in tackling the challenges of climate change," said Andrew Upton and Cate Blanchett.
