Ferrari Will Unveil a Hybrid Model: Crazy Fuel Economy, Crazy Power, Crazy Thought

In March, at the Geneva Auto Show, Ferrari will reveal its first hybrid vehicle--another sign the transportation world is changing.
Most major auto manufacturers have begun to develop green car models, including hybrid, plug-in hybrid electric, and electric cars. Yet, no one would have expected luxury and sports car manufacturers such as Lamborghini and Ferrari to join the team.
Well, last year Lamborghini announced it would begin research and development on a hybrid model; while this year, Ferrari will beat its rival to the punch and deliver a hybrid 599 GTB Fiorano.
The hybrid 599 GTB will run on lithium-ion battery technology and a flywheel-powered Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS). The KERS system allows for energy to be stored when the brakes are applied. Furthermore, the car's engine will shut off when it is not in motion. The hybrid 599 GTB will receive almost double the fuel economy compared to its gas-powered sister--14 miles per gallon to 9 miles per gallon.
Besides being more fuel efficient, not much else separates the gas and hybrid models. Each have a 612 horsepower, V12 engine that is capable of reaching 64 MPH in 4 seconds. The hybrid model has a top speed of 205 MPH.
