While electric vehicles (EV) are becoming more and more mainstream, finding a place to charge them can be quite challenging. But now, locating charging stations may be as simple as a click of the mouse.
Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) recently announced it is adding the locations of electric vehicle charging stations to its popular Google Maps.
Google, along with data from the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), will be adding more information as it becomes available.
Over the past several months, the search engine giant has been adding the new information to Google Maps. It is expected that approximately 7,000 fueling stations in the United States and 600 EV Supply Equipment (EVSE) locations will be added.
To use the new feature, simply type in “ev charging stations” along with a location into the search box and search.
Locations of nearby charging stations are available on the left side of the page showing specific addresses, telephone numbers and business names of the charging stations. Locations are also pinpointed on the Google Map.
Auto and charging station manufacturers, installers and industry representatives are encouraged to join NREL’s GeoEVSE Forum.
