Fisker Automotive has announced its flagship plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, the Karma, will soon be available in Canada.
The California-based manufacturer has partnered with retailers in Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver -- bringing its brand into three of the country's largest markets.
In Toronto and Calgary, Fisker has joined forces with the Dilawri Group, Canada's largest auto dealer group, to sell the Karma. The Dilwari Group will create a unique Fisker retail location, which it will place in Toronto's first open air mall. In Vancouver, Fisker has partnered with the Fields Automotive Group.
Toronto and Vancouver, besides representing two of the largest consumer markets in Canada, also represent the two most attractive cleantech markets in the country. The Canadian government has set a goal of having 500,000 plug-in vehicles on the roads by 2018.
To help achieve this ambition, Ontario and British Columbia have created incentives to attract consumers. Both provinces offer financial rebates between $5,000 and $8,500 for purchasers of electric cars. Ontario has also established other bonuses for electric vehicle owners, such as access to the high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane.
The Fisker Karma embodies a new era of luxury -- merging comfort and sustainability. Currently retailing between $95,900 and $108,900 in the United States, the Karma can go from 0-60 mph in 5.9 seconds, with a top speed of 125 mph. It also features a solar panel roof which helps charge the vehicle and an interior crafted recycled post-consumer materials.
