Honda Unveils All-Electric 2013 Fit EV

Honda recently unveiled its electric version of the popular Fit hatchback.  Designed to meet the needs of the average urban driver, the 100 percent electric Honda Fit EV recently debuted at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show in California.

Using the latest cutting edge technology, the 2013 Fit EV is powered by a 20kWh lithium-ion battery packaged under the floor and 92-kilowatt electric motor.   The Fit EV has three driving modes - Econ, Normal and Sport modes.

Using the U.S. EPA city cycle test methods, the Fit EV can travel up to 123 city miles, 95 highway miles or 76 combined mile range per charge. Drivers will be able to take advantage of the convenient on-board charger to fully recharge the battery in just about three hours using a 240-volt outlet compared to six to eight hours to recharging the vehicle using a 110-volt outlet.

The vehicle’s handy telematics system will allow drivers to stay connected via a computer, smartphone or interactive remote.  And the standard Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System will also allow customers to find public charging station locations and receive traffic information as well.

Also included in the Fit EV is a highly efficient electric air conditioning system and regenerative braking system.   With generous cargo space, the car can seat up to five passengers.  Plant-based bio-fabric material is used throughout the cabin.  The car will be available in one color – Reflection Blue Pearl.

Initially available for lease beginning in the summer of 2012, the Fit EV will launch in select markets across California and Oregon for an estimated monthly lease price of $399.  Honda will then expand to markets on the east coast sometime in 2013 with an estimated Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price of a little more than $36,000.
