U.S. Hybrid Sales Rise 10% in October

In October, sales of hybrid vehicles increased nearly 10% in the United States.
The increased consumer demand for hybrid automobiles came in a month which saw car sales drop 1%. Hybrids now make up 2.55% of all car sales per month -- roughly 25,000 sales per month.
The Toyota Prius remains the favourite choice among American consumers. In October, 11,371 Priuses were sold nationwide; this is more than six times more than the closest competitor, the Honda Insight. The Insight took second place with 1,965 units sold; the Ford Fusion Hybrid finished third with 1,657 sales.
It appears the Prius will have to tackle a new competitor in the hybrid market, the Honda CR-Z. The CR-Z saw its sales jump 15% last month, reaching a total of 1,419 sold units, making it the fourth best selling hybrid in October.
