'Wind In The Sea': 576-Megawatt Offshore Wind Farm Set for North Wales [Video]
RWE Innogy, Stadtwerke Muenchen, and Siemens (NYSE:SI) have partnered to build a 576-megawatt offshore wind farm in the United Kingdom.
The wind farm will be constructed in Liverpool Bay, Wales -- around 18 kilometers off the coast. The wind farm, which has been named Gwynt y Môr (Welsh for "wind in the sea), will be composed of 160 wind turbines. Construction will begin in 2011; the farm will be able to produce electricity by 2013 even though the entire project is not set to be complete until 2014.

When the wind farm is brought on-line at full capacity it is expected to be able to prduce 1,950 gigawatt-hours of electricity per year, enough to power 400,000 households.
RWE Innogy will hold the majority stake, 60%, in the wind farm, while Stadwerke Muchen will hold 30% and Siemens 10%. Gwynt y Môr will cost the business partners US $2.44 billion to build.
